Language Requirement

Every student at BUonline is required to attain a certain proficiency in two foreign languages. The determination
of such proficiency will vary from Division to Division. It is the student's responsibility to learn how the requirement
is satisfied in the languages you select.
How to Satisfy the Language Requirement:
- Pass a proficiency examination administered by the
BUonline Language Center after the completion of a
minimum of three courses study (or the equivalent). In most instances, students will take the proficiency examination
after completing four courses (or the equivalent) of study
- Earn a passing grade, after four courses.
- Receive an exemption from the
BUonline Language Center, before beginning language study at
BUonline,
as a result of achieving the required score on any of the following:
- A BUonline Language Center placement test. All students who have had previous study of a language that
wish to continue with the same language to fulfill the Language Requirement must take a placement test in the language
at the BUonline Language Center, to determine their appropriate level of study. Some students may do well
enough in the exam to be exempt from the Language Requirement.
