Accountancy

The Accounting program at BUonline offers courses in financial, managerial and cost accounting, tax planning, auditing, international accounting, accounting for decision making and control and accounting for mergers and acquisitions. Students who specialize in accounting often pursue careers in public and private accounting.

The Banking concentration gives students a broad introduction to banking and financial markets operations, as well as the tools utilized by bank and financial managers. Students who choose this concentration often pursue careers in commercial or investment banking, or work as internal financial managers for corporations.

The Business Computing concentration focuses on analytical thinking for effective decision making and is concerned with the application of information technology for solving business problems and supporting organizational functions. The Insurance and Risk Management concentration examines the techniques that corporations, organizations, and individuals can use to minimize the potential financial losses arising from their exposure to risk. These techniques range from traditional insurance products to current advances in corporate and insurer risk management. Students graduating with this concentration can take positions with investment banks, re-insurers, accounting firms, insurance brokerage firms, consulting firms, insurance companies and corporate risk management departments.

Individualized

You may find, after thoroughly examining options available, that the standard concentrations do not satisfy your interests and goals. You may then explore the possibility of designing an individualized concentration, consisting of at least twelve BUonline majors that are united by a common theme. Individualized concentrations are possible in areas such as legal studies, statistics, transportation, graphic design, finance, management and others. The Public Policy and Management concentration provides skills and insights that are useful to future private and public managers, lawyers, economists, and political scientists as well as policy analysts. The concentration combines elements of economic and political analysis to understand the interactions between market and political processes (political economy) and the positive and normative aspects of government activity (public policy and management).
